Leading Light Wind

Leading Light Wind is a significant offshore wind energy project located over 40 miles off the coast of New Jersey in the New York Bight area. This initiative is a collaboration between lead developer Invenergy and co-developer energyRe, supported by investors such as Blackstone Infrastructure Partners and CDPQ. The project aims to generate approximately 2,400 megawatts of clean energy, enough to power over 1 million homes annually, while contributing to the East Coast's clean energy goals. The project is designed to create around 7,500 jobs and provide an estimated $3.7 billion in local economic benefits. It will also help reduce carbon emissions by about 4.1 million tons each year. Leading Light Wind emphasizes responsible development through community engagement, partnerships with local organizations, and targeted workforce training to ensure equitable economic benefits. Construction is set to begin in 2028, with commercial operations expected to start in 2032.
