About Top Solar Services
We're the USA's leading directory for finding vetted solar contractors. Our mission is simple: help every homeowner and business find the right solar company for their project.
What we do
Top Solar Services maintains a curated, searchable directory of 950+ solar installation, removal, cleaning, maintenance, and battery storage contractors across 50 US states. Every listing is verified through our human-led vetting process, and every review is confirmed with the reviewer before publication.
Our verification process
Before a contractor earns our Verified or Premier Verified badge, we verify:
- State contractor license status (current and in good standing)
- General liability and workers' compensation insurance
- NABCEP certification (where applicable)
- Business registration and years in operation
- Customer references from recent projects
How we rank companies
Our ranking algorithm considers:
- Review quality and volume — weighted toward recent projects
- Average rating — across quality, schedule, cost, and willingness-to-refer
- Verification tier — Premier > Verified > Free
- Response rate — how quickly contractors respond to homeowner inquiries
Sponsored listings are clearly labeled with an amber "Sponsored" pill and never displace organic rankings on quality signals.
Our business model
Top Solar Services is free for homeowners, always. Contractors can list for free, or upgrade to our Verified ($99/mo) or Premier ($299/mo) tiers for greater visibility, analytics, and lead matching. We also offer sponsored placement and pay-per-lead options. See our pricing page for details.
Privacy & Terms
We take data privacy seriously. We never sell your personal information. Lead submissions are shared only with the contractors you choose to be matched with. Read our full privacy policy for details.
Why we built Top Solar Services
Solar adoption in the United States has more than tripled in the last five years, and homeowners now have thousands of contractors to choose from in nearly every state. The challenge isn't finding a solar company — it's finding the right one. A poorly designed system can underproduce by 20% or more, a roof penetration done wrong can cause leaks for years, and a removal job mishandled before a re-roof can damage panels worth tens of thousands of dollars. We built Top Solar Services to give homeowners and small businesses a single, trustworthy place to compare solar contractors on the things that actually matter: licensing, insurance, certifications, real customer outcomes, and warranty terms in writing.
Who we help
Our directory serves three audiences. Homeowners use Top Solar Services to compare local installers, removal crews, panel cleaners, and battery storage specialists before requesting quotes. Property managers and small business owners use it to source commercial-scale contractors with experience in flat roofs, ground mounts, and net-metered installations. Real estate professionals and roofers use it to find reliable removal-and-reinstall crews when a roof replacement is scheduled on a home with existing panels. Every project type — from a 6 kW residential install to a 250 kW commercial system — has different requirements, and our category filters and verification badges help you narrow the field quickly.
What makes a contractor worth hiring
Across thousands of reviewed projects, four signals correlate most strongly with successful solar installations: a current state contractor license in the relevant trade (typically electrical or general), at least one NABCEP-certified installer on the project team, transparent written warranties covering panels, inverters, and workmanship, and a documented post-installation support process. Our profile pages surface each of these so you can verify them before any sales call.
Editorial independence
Sponsored placement is always labeled and never affects the underlying quality scores we publish. Reviews cannot be purchased or removed by contractors. If a contractor disputes a review, we re-verify the reviewer and the project details, and we publish the contractor's response alongside the original review when relevant. This editorial separation is what makes our rankings useful.
