Chinnock Solar

Chinnock Solar works to create partnerships between various stakeholders to develop solar projects for schools, businesses & municipalities. In 2012, Governor Cuomo outlined an ambitious plan called Reforming the Energy Vision (REV) aimed at building a next-generation energy system that is clean, resilient and affordable for all New Yorkers. His aggressive Clean Energy Standard commitment will require 50% of New York State's electricity to be sourced from renewable energy sources by 2030. The NY-Sun Incentive Program is the solar part of this strategy and will bring affordable solar electric power to 150,00 new homes and businesses by 2020. In 2014, Governor Cuomo made a historic commitment of nearly $1 billion to stimulate the marketplace and increase the number of solar electric systems across the state over 10 years. K-Solar – a program started in 2014 under the NY-Sun initiative – aims to help public school districts throughout New York state lower their energy costs with clean, local power without effecting school district budgets. K-Solar is a joint program between the New York Power Authority (NYPA), New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA), the Governor's Energy Office and the New York State Education Department (NYSED). NYPA projects for government municipalities and schools will receive in excess of $20 million in incentives and power companies will be offered financial aid to help offset the cost of the reduction in electricity used. The program will focus on investment strategies like shared ownership and aggregated purchasing to make solar electric systems more affordable. The initial focus of Chinnock Solar will be this K-Solar program. By conducting outreach to school district management, solar development companies and government participants, it is our goal to help school districts in the lower Hudson valley save money and go solar.
