About this listing

Solar Energy Services, Inc. is listed on Top Solar Services as a solar contractor serving Gambrills, Maryland. The 77 verified reviews on this page reflects real client experiences. Use the information on this page — the verified review count, sub-ratings on quality, schedule, cost, and willingness-to-refer, the company's services and pricing snapshot, and the contact details — alongside your own due diligence on licensing and insurance before requesting a quote.

Solar contractors in this category should carry a current state contractor license, $1M+ general liability and workers' compensation insurance, and verified reviews from recent projects in your area.

In Maryland, solar contractors are typically licensed at the state level for electrical or general construction work, and the most-cited credentials homeowners check on this page are NABCEP certification, manufacturer training (Tesla, Enphase, SolarEdge), and verified workers' compensation coverage. Confirm Solar Energy Services, Inc.'s state contractor license number with your Maryland licensing board, verify any NABCEP credentials at nabcep.org, and request proof of general liability and workers' compensation insurance certificates that name your project address before signing a contract. For larger projects, ask for two or three references from recently completed installs of similar size and call them about quality, schedule, and warranty service experience.

What to expect from this contractor

Typical project timeline. Most residential installs run 8–14 weeks end to end: about a week for the site survey and design, 2–6 weeks waiting on permits from the local Authority Having Jurisdiction, one to three days of physical installation, then 2–5 weeks for inspection and utility permission to operate. The panels go up fast; the paperwork is what sets the schedule. Ask Solar Energy Services, Inc. for the specific permitting turnaround in Gambrills, because local inspection backlogs are the single most common source of schedule slippage and vary widely between neighboring jurisdictions.

What the quote process looks like. A serious solar installation quote is delivered in writing after a site assessment — not as a verbal number on a first phone call. Expect a written proposal with an itemized bill of materials (panel and inverter make and model), a production estimate modeled in PVWatts, Aurora, or Helioscope showing shading and tilt assumptions, the full price before and after any incentives, and financing terms disclosed separately from the equipment price. Get at least three comparable written proposals so you are comparing equipment and scope rather than sales pressure, and be wary of any bid that expires within 24 hours or requires more than 10% down before work begins.

Credentials to confirm. Before signing, verify the state contractor license number with the Maryland licensing board, confirm any NABCEP certification directly at nabcep.org, and request certificates of general liability and workers' compensation insurance that name your project address. A contractor who hesitates to produce these documents has told you what you need to know.

How warranty service works. Three separate warranties apply: the panel manufacturer's product and performance warranty (typically 25 years), the inverter warranty (10–25 years depending on platform), and the contractor's own workmanship warranty covering labor and roof penetrations. Only the last one depends on Solar Energy Services, Inc. remaining in business, which is why a company's track record in Gambrills matters as much as the warranty length on paper. Confirm in writing who to call for a service claim, what the response window is, and whether the workmanship warranty transfers if you sell the home.

Local solar market context: Maryland

Electricity rates and payback. Residential customers in Maryland pay roughly 16–19¢ per kWh, and that avoided-cost figure — not any incentive — is what actually drives solar payback. The higher your current bill and the longer you plan to stay in the home, the stronger the case. Installed residential pricing in Maryland generally runs $2.60–$3.10 per watt before incentives, with smaller systems landing at the upper end because fixed permitting and mobilization costs spread across fewer watts.

Net metering and utility policy. Maryland operates under full-retail net metering with annual true-up. This is the detail most homeowners overlook and the one that changes twenty-year savings the most, so ask Solar Energy Services, Inc. to model your system under the tariff you will actually be placed on rather than a generic assumption.

Incentives available in 2026. The federal Section 25D residential tax credit expired on December 31, 2025, so homeowners buying a system outright no longer claim the 30% credit. Section 48E remains available for business-owned and third-party-owned systems, which is why lease and power-purchase-agreement offers have become more competitive in Maryland than they were a year ago. At the state and utility level, Maryland homeowners can look to a $1,000 residential grant, an active SREC market, and both sales- and property-tax exemptions. Confirm current program status before signing — incentive budgets are capped and windows close without much notice.

Why this is a workable solar market. Between 16–19¢ retail electricity, established installer competition around Gambrills, and the policy structure above, Maryland supports well-designed residential solar — provided the system is sized to your actual usage rather than oversized to inflate a commission.

Solar Energy Services did an outstanding job diagnosing and replacing a faulty inverter and getting our system back online. The warranty support was exactly what you hope for: fully covered, with both the replacement equipment and the service handled smoothly and professionally. Megan Coughlin, Service Department Manager, was supportive and responsive throughout, kept me updated, and helped move scheduling along as soon as the inverter was delivered.

On site, Mr. Nisim Evans (Lead Tech) and Mr. Ian Harris were terrific. They were clearly experts and incredibly knowledgeable, worked efficiently, and communicated well about what they were doing. They were also courteous, personable, and a genuine pleasure to have in our home.

They handled a challenging environment without missing a beat: our street was actively being repaved with a full road construction crew, specialty heavy equipment, dump trucks, and asphalt operations directly in front of the house all day. To make things even more complicated, the asphalt grinder damaged our underground Verizon internet line. Despite those obstacles, the crew stayed focused, worked through lunch, and then made extra time to return the following day to complete the hookup.

Highly recommend Solar Energy Services for both the quality of the technical work and the professionalism of the team.

Brendan and Kabir did an exceptional job at installing our EV charger. These two work well together and kept me in the loop when needed to ask my preferences for the mounting of the equipment. The job came out super clean. Both technicians are great communicators and represent your company very very well. Extremely happy with this experience!!

After a delay of a few years to undertake this rather large home improvement/investment project, SES proceeded with my installation and everyone from on-line sales, quotes, questions to site visits, installation and follow-up site visits have been excellent. Have already had inquiries from neighbors and friends. AND to add to the complication of our particular installation... it was in a Historic District which has very strict requirements about solar installations. Everything worked out very well.

I have recently (finally) gone solar, after a long period (years, actually) of going back and forth doing research and trying to cut through the maddening cacophony of "expert" advise online. At the end of the day, serendipitously and fortunately, I went with Solar Energy Services: I can't recommend SES strongly enough. Erin was our project coordinator, she was amazing, but the entire team was truly outstanding, remarkably professional, educating me and guiding me throughout the process.

I am sure most people (like me) can find this process a bit intimidating (so many details and options to consider; companies sound all alike; prices are all over the place) but having found SES was a turning point. I have read so many horror stories that I consider myself very lucky, it is obvious that SES cares about its reputation.

Should any of you readers out there decide to go solar, I have no doubt Erin and her people will be happy to educate you and help you get there, just like they did for me.

The bottom line is that I did a ton of research on solar installers and purchase vs. lease. Ultimately we decided to go with SES because of multiple, personal, reviews on the company from friends and people who had used them and who gave me feedback on NextDoor. All of them had done the research I had and all of them came to the same conclusion; SES was reputable, did great work, and backed up their claims with actual performance. SES worked with me for weeks leading up to the eventual installation of our system. There was design, permitting, and financing to consider. Once the permits came through, they put me on their schedule and showed up exactly when the said they would. There were multiple steps to the installation (AC work, DC work, panel conversion, interface work, cabling, and a battery installation). Through all of it, SES provided me with delivery dates and they showed up when they said they would. The multiple teams (electricians and installers) that were here were made up of workers I wound up chatting with and wanted to be around; they were clean in their work and in their manners. There was one problem that came up that turned out to be a misaligned cable that must've jiggled loose from the manufacturer (not their fault), but they sent someone out to my house at 6:45am to get it working again. I can't say enough positive things about dealing with them. Take a look at the interface and inverter installation on the side of my house; if you know anything about cable management, you can see that this is artwork that they performed. They even took steps to make sure that all of my state, local, and environmental credit applications were completed and filed properly so that I received the maximum benefit for the installation. Would I used them again? ABSOLUTELY. Would I recommend them to neighbors; WITHOUT QUESTION.
