About this listing

OC Solar is listed on Top Solar Services as a solar contractor serving Irvine, California. The 382 verified reviews on this page reflects real client experiences. Use the information on this page — the verified review count, sub-ratings on quality, schedule, cost, and willingness-to-refer, the company's services and pricing snapshot, and the contact details — alongside your own due diligence on licensing and insurance before requesting a quote.

Solar contractors in this category should carry a current state contractor license, $1M+ general liability and workers' compensation insurance, and verified reviews from recent projects in your area.

In California, solar contractors are typically licensed at the state level for electrical or general construction work, and the most-cited credentials homeowners check on this page are NABCEP certification, manufacturer training (Tesla, Enphase, SolarEdge), and verified workers' compensation coverage. Confirm OC Solar's state contractor license number with your California licensing board, verify any NABCEP credentials at nabcep.org, and request proof of general liability and workers' compensation insurance certificates that name your project address before signing a contract. For larger projects, ask for two or three references from recently completed installs of similar size and call them about quality, schedule, and warranty service experience.

What to expect from this contractor

Typical project timeline. Most residential installs run 8–14 weeks end to end: about a week for the site survey and design, 2–6 weeks waiting on permits from the local Authority Having Jurisdiction, one to three days of physical installation, then 2–5 weeks for inspection and utility permission to operate. The panels go up fast; the paperwork is what sets the schedule. Ask OC Solar for the specific permitting turnaround in Irvine, because local inspection backlogs are the single most common source of schedule slippage and vary widely between neighboring jurisdictions.

What the quote process looks like. A serious solar installation quote is delivered in writing after a site assessment — not as a verbal number on a first phone call. Expect a written proposal with an itemized bill of materials (panel and inverter make and model), a production estimate modeled in PVWatts, Aurora, or Helioscope showing shading and tilt assumptions, the full price before and after any incentives, and financing terms disclosed separately from the equipment price. Get at least three comparable written proposals so you are comparing equipment and scope rather than sales pressure, and be wary of any bid that expires within 24 hours or requires more than 10% down before work begins.

Credentials to confirm. Before signing, verify the state contractor license number with the California licensing board, confirm any NABCEP certification directly at nabcep.org, and request certificates of general liability and workers' compensation insurance that name your project address. A contractor who hesitates to produce these documents has told you what you need to know.

How warranty service works. Three separate warranties apply: the panel manufacturer's product and performance warranty (typically 25 years), the inverter warranty (10–25 years depending on platform), and the contractor's own workmanship warranty covering labor and roof penetrations. Only the last one depends on OC Solar remaining in business, which is why a company's track record in Irvine matters as much as the warranty length on paper. Confirm in writing who to call for a service claim, what the response window is, and whether the workmanship warranty transfers if you sell the home.

Local solar market context: California

Electricity rates and payback. Residential customers in California pay roughly 31–34¢ per kWh, and that avoided-cost figure — not any incentive — is what actually drives solar payback. The higher your current bill and the longer you plan to stay in the home, the stronger the case. Installed residential pricing in California generally runs $2.60–$3.20 per watt before incentives, with smaller systems landing at the upper end because fixed permitting and mobilization costs spread across fewer watts.

Net metering and utility policy. California operates under NEM 3.0 net billing, which pays roughly 75% less for exported power than the old NEM 2.0 tariff and makes a battery essential to good economics. This is the detail most homeowners overlook and the one that changes twenty-year savings the most, so ask OC Solar to model your system under the tariff you will actually be placed on rather than a generic assumption.

Incentives available in 2026. The federal Section 25D residential tax credit expired on December 31, 2025, so homeowners buying a system outright no longer claim the 30% credit. Section 48E remains available for business-owned and third-party-owned systems, which is why lease and power-purchase-agreement offers have become more competitive in California than they were a year ago. At the state and utility level, California homeowners can look to the SGIP battery rebate and, in wildfire-risk areas, additional resiliency adders. Confirm current program status before signing — incentive budgets are capped and windows close without much notice.

Why this is a workable solar market. Between 31–34¢ retail electricity, established installer competition around Irvine, and the policy structure above, California supports well-designed residential solar — provided the system is sized to your actual usage rather than oversized to inflate a commission.

I did my research for a solar company that would be able to meet our needs (provide a specific schematic for our home and energy use). OC Solar is a company where employees reach out to you to welcome you and maintain communications with a client portal. I received a sweet welcome treat, thanks Dayne! You can decide what modality in which you would like to recieve communications (ie. Email, calls, texts). The company provides continuous training to its employees so they are advanced field experts with your roofing, solar, and all things electrical needs. Your questions can be answered with multiple resources (i.e. OC Solar employees or manufactures of equipment). I want to thank Dayne and his sales team members, Savanah, Chandler with working with the utility company, my project manager Mike Gomez, and Paul who was my lead field expert. Paul has advance electrical skills and his crew was spot on with installation of panels and tile roofing replacement. The crew kept me updated the entire time they were installing equipment and cleaned up their work areas after each day of work. I would recommend anyone who is looking for a solar company to at the very least to do a consultation with OC solar and ask for the following above mentioned people. No matter who you work with at this company you will have made a great choice. 👌

I couldn't be happier with OC Solar! From start to finish, their team was professional, knowledgeable, and truly committed to finding the best solution for my home.

They installed a complete solar system that's already making a noticeable difference in my energy bills. Even better, they set me up with backup batteries so I have peace of mind knowing I'll have power when I need it most. And the locked-in rate they secured for me? That's going to save me money for years to come.

The installation crew was efficient and respectful of my property, and the whole process was much smoother than I expected. OC Solar made going solar easy and stress-free.

If you're considering solar, I highly recommend OC Solar. They deliver quality work, excellent customer service, and real value. Five stars all the way!

Working with OC Solar has been the biggest blessing I could’ve asked for. Whenever I need anything, it gets taken care of smoothly and easily. I’ve been a partner of theirs for the last year and a half and don’t give me wrong. It hasn’t been perfect. But no matter what goes wrong it always gets taken care of and made up for.

Their service level is at the highest quality and I’ve worked with over 15 solar installers in my career. There is nobody who takes care of customers and takes care of partners like they do.

Savannah and the whole customer service team is so nice and helpful for myself, my employees, and my customers. I couldn’t imagine recommending any other Solar Installer in Southern California and I wouldn’t trust any other Installer to provide the level of servicing quality.

If I could give them 10 stars, I would the level of professionalism, care, and enthusiasm of the mundane is unparalleled.

So happy to have stumbled on this opportunity to work with such a qualified Solar Installer. If you ever want to work with the Solar Installer, that is really going to take care of your customers and provide the level of service and quality that you expect OC Solar is by far the best pick.

This company has been stellar. Especially when it came to the installation. The 5 man team arrived at 7am and had everything staged and ready to go at 8am (Permitted construction start time). They replace my entire main panel and had my power restored by noon. More importantly, they worked with me on a special request to minimize external conduit. The photos speak for themselves. They ran flex and EMT through the garage walls and attic to result in nearly zero external conduit. Very impressive. They installed 14 high quality panels across 3 arrays, a main panel and a Tesla battery all in one day! They even thoroughly cleaned up after. I couldn't be happier.

Thanks to the OC Solar installation team of Giovanni, Anthony, Anthony, Anthony, Mark. With 3 Anthonys on the team, how can you go wrong.

The office and support team have also been very responsive, by pushing through permits and answering my questions.

By the way, OC Solar was on the cheaper end of the 4 bids I received. Don't let the price fool you. It's a bargain.
