I was almost scammed by Sun Run and had two men come to my door suggesting that they could save me some money on solar panels. They were renting a house down the street so they were very convenient.
Then I found North Texas Solar, a locally owned and operated solar company with a good reputation and years of experience.
Two days after I called for an appointment, Jake Wilburn came to my house. We walked the property and he explained that I could benefit from solar energy even with my trees. He told me honestly that I would need to keep certain branches trimmed back to get the full benefit. No problem.
Two days after that I had a contract with every detail of the quality materials they use, the price and warranty information.
Thank you, Tanya Davis, you are dream to work with.
Two weeks after that the crew arrived. They work together on all the projects so they worked like a team. They didn't seem to mind my curiosity about what they were doing. One of them even told me to keep an eye on the squirrel population because in cold weather squirrels can snuggle under the panels to get warm, and not being good guests, will chew on the wires. There are critter guards that can be installed, if you need them.
And the panels might need to be cleaned from time to time like washing windows. You can do it yourself of hire someone.

I had North Texas Solar add some batteries to my house so I could run my whole house for at least 24 hours back in early July of 2025. The house has 4000 sq ft and three AC units. So, this was a semi complex and "tight" installation on the wall in my garage. Just before the work was done, I switched my electric plan to one of the "Free All Night" plans with my provider. The only fee I would have would be the connection fee from ONCOR, the company that puts the meter on your home. The batteries and Inverters I chose were from EG4, because they "fit" the installation and use requirements. I did not need to stop using my garage because of the physical size of the batteries. The batteries have an eight thousand cycle guarentee from the manufacturer. Meaning I can charge and discharge them fully 8000 time before they get worn out. I have used these batteries for many months now and found that I am using about 40% of a cycle per day. Based on that number, I should be able to use the batteries 20,000 days (54.75 years). I do not think they will last that long. But, I do think they may out live me since I'm over 45. I have used the web page and app that comes from the manufacturer, as well as the inverters screen to set the power charge/discharge times and amounts. I wanted to make sure I fully understand how to make changes for things like daylights savings time.
I charge the batteries each night to 80% and run the house from the grid at night. Then, I run the house from the batteries during the day. My only cost is the connection fee of $3.32 + $0.08 tax ($4.40) per month. Since the proof is in the pudding, I have added two screen images from Green Mountain Electric (my electric company). One images shows how many kWh I used per month for 2025, and the other shows how much I spent for electricity each month in 2025.
Since North Texas Solar did this work, they understand it far better than any other company. Being smart and able to understand complex details truely matters. Consider that as the most important thing if you want electrical work done on your home.

We are more than happy with the service, installation and monitoring of our solar system.
We interviewed a few solar companies before a friend recommended North Texas Solar and got me in touch with Jake. He took time to meet with us several different times: virtually, on the phone and in person and answered all our questions, even ones we asked multiple times.
We had expressed our previous experience with contractors, and he assured us that we would not encounter the same challenges with his installation crew. They were on time, professional, informative AND cleaned up after themselves. This made our experience that much better.
The attention and customer service after installation has been top-notch. Jake has been helpful answering the learning curve questions and making sure that our system was doing what it was supposed to, especially during the most recent ice storm.
We highly recommend North Texas Solar!

A+. I shopped a few competitors, and North Texas Solar had a great price, so I figured maybe I’d need to take a discount when it comes to service. I was wrong. These guys really shined throughout the whole process. Business savvy, practical, great at communication. Absolute top notch when it comes to technical expertise. As far as combination of price and service, you won’t find better. I’ve owned solar in the past, so in that sense I do have prior experience as a benchmark. Very satisfied all around.

NTS did a great job replacing my 21 yr old solar panels that needed replacing. Guys put up new panels without making any holes in my metal roof. The new NTS panels make almost 4x the power of the old ones. On a sunny day, my arrays make 65 kWh of power. Good crew and nice guys. Highly recommended
