Our verification process
Before a contractor earns our Verified or Premier Verified badge, we verify:
- State contractor license status (current and in good standing)
- General liability and workers' compensation insurance
- NABCEP certification (where applicable)
- Business registration and years in operation
- Customer references from recent projects
How we rank companies
Our ranking algorithm considers:
- Review quality and volume — weighted toward recent projects
- Average rating — across quality, schedule, cost, and willingness-to-refer
- Verification tier — Premier > Verified > Free
- Response rate — how quickly contractors respond to homeowner inquiries
Sponsored listings are clearly labeled with an amber "Sponsored" pill and never displace organic rankings on quality signals.
